Various Artists (November 3, 2009) – Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame + Museum: Live Video USA: 3DVD

Released: November 3, 2009
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame + Museum: Live collects performances and induction material from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame archives. Of particular importance to the Prince Chronicle is the celebrated March 15, 2004 performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps, featuring Prince on guitar alongside Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison.
BACKGROUND | RECORDING |
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame + Museum: Live was assembled as a retrospective collection celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The programme draws upon performances and induction ceremonies from across the organisation's history. The Prince connection comes through While My Guitar Gently Weeps, George Harrison's composition performed as part of the 2004 induction celebrations. Prince joined Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison for the performance. Prince was himself inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that evening. His own acceptance speech and his performance of Let's Go Crazy, Sign O' The Times and Kiss, however, were not included in any configuration of this video collection. | Prince's featured performance of While My Guitar Gently Weeps was recorded on March 15, 2004 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. The performance formed part of the tribute to George Harrison, who was inducted posthumously that year. Prince appears as a guest guitarist on the 6:20 performance alongside Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood and Dhani Harrison. The wider DVD collection contains material recorded at numerous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremonies across different years. |
STYLE & THEMES | RELEASE HISTORY |
The collection is structured as a retrospective celebration of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame history, combining live performances with acceptance speeches, inductions, rehearsal material and backstage footage. Prince's While My Guitar Gently Weeps appearance is presented within the George Harrison section, following the Harrison acceptance and Handle With Care performance. The performance documents Prince participating in a tribute rather than presenting his own catalogue, making it a distinct part of his officially released video appearances. | The Light My Fire single DVD was released on October 20, 2009 and runs for 132 minutes. The multiple-disc sets followed on November 3, 2009. The 3DVD edition runs for 528 minutes, while a 4DVD edition runs for 702 minutes. The expanded 9DVD edition runs for 1,453 minutes and was also offered online. The Light My Fire programme containing Prince's performance was incorporated into the larger 3DVD, 4DVD and 9DVD configurations. The releases appeared through Time Life, with additional editions subsequently documented for other territories. |
