"Dance 4 Me" was the first and only single released from Prince's thirty-fourth studio album, MPLSound. The song initially appeared as a digital release in France on August 31, 2009, one week before the album's French release, and was made available exclusively as the album version of the track.

On September 29, 2009, a new digital release was issued in the United States featuring David Alexander's "Icon Remix". This remix became the primary focus of the single campaign in North America. Although additional remixes and an edited version of the song were prepared for a proposed maxi-single, those releases did not materialise at the time and remained unavailable.

The project was revisited in December 2011 when Swiss label Purple Music issued an expanded remix package. This later release incorporated the previously released Icon Remix alongside newly commissioned remixes and several mixes created in 2009 that had remained unreleased.

Additional remix work for later releases was completed by Jamie Lewis, David Alexander, Brian Matrix and Dominatrix.

STYLE & THEMES

"Dance 4 Me" was presented as a dance-oriented track from MPLSound and later became the basis for an extensive remix programme. The various remixes expanded the song into club-oriented, house and electronic dance styles while maintaining the original composition.

RELEASE HISTORY

The original digital single was released in France on August 31, 2009 through NPG Records and Because Music. This initial edition contained only the album version of the song.

A separate digital release followed in the United States on September 29, 2009 featuring the David Alexander Icon Remix. The remix was distributed through iTunes and became the only officially released remix from the originally planned remix campaign.

On December 9, 2011, Purple Music issued a significantly expanded Swiss re-release featuring multiple new remixes together with previously unavailable 2009 mixes. Digital editions of the expanded package followed on December 12, 2011.
