Madhouse: The Jazz Heart of Prince
Madhouse was Prince's anonymous 1980s jazz-funk instrumental side project, launched in 1986 after The Revolution disbanded. Core creator: Prince (multi-instrumentalist, often pseudonyms like Austra Chanel/keys, John Lewis/drums, Bill Lewis/bass) with saxophonist Eric Leeds as the featured soloist and "leader." Debut album 8 (1987) featured 8 tracks numbered One to Eight, all instrumental jazz-fusion jams born from Prince's growing jazz interest via Leeds (from The Family project).
