Prince (October 29, 2026) – NEWS RELEASE: 3121 Expanded Edition Officially Announced

THE ANNOUNCEMENT
NPG Records and The Prince Estate officially announced 3121 Expanded Edition on October 29, 2026, ending the speculation generated by earlier retailer listings.
Those initial listings revealed that a substantial 3121 package was approaching, but neither its final title nor the contents of the audio and Blu-ray components had been officially confirmed.
The announcement established the release as:
3121 Expanded Edition
with a worldwide release scheduled for:
December 11, 2026
The project celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Prince’s 2006 album while expanding beyond the original studio record through previously unreleased audio and concert material from the wider 3121 period.
FROM RETAILER LEAK TO OFFICIAL RELEASE
Several days before the formal announcement, Tower Records Ireland unexpectedly listed a Prince release simply called 3121 (Deluxe).
The retailer showed two physical configurations:
Double CD + Blu-ray
Triple Vinyl + Blu-ray
At that stage, the listings were significant but incomplete. The precise contents of the additional audio discs and Blu-ray remained unconfirmed.
The October 29 announcement established that the correct title was 3121 Expanded Edition and confirmed the structure of the project.
The earlier retailer listing therefore provided an advance glimpse of the release rather than its final presentation.
It had also carried a prospective December 4 release date. The official announcement replaced that preliminary information with the confirmed worldwide release date of December 11, 2026.
THE ORIGINAL ALBUM
Originally released on March 21, 2006, 3121 represented a major commercial achievement for Prince.
The album became Prince’s first release to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his fourth album overall to reach the top of the chart.
It followed the renewed mainstream success surrounding Musicology and its accompanying tour.
During the 3121 period, Prince also appeared on major American television programmes including Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America and the American Idol season finale.
STYLE & THEMES
Across its original 12 tracks, 3121 moves through several strands of Prince’s musical vocabulary.
“Black Sweat” presents a deliberately stripped-back funk approach.
“Te Amo Corazón” moves into a smoother ballad setting.
“Fury” brings guitar more prominently into the musical foreground.
The album also incorporates tightly constructed pop songs, layered funk grooves, vocal interplay and instrumental performances characteristic of Prince’s work during this period.
THE 10 VAULT RECORDINGS
The expanded audio programme adds 10 recordings to the original album:
Time of Ur Life
The Streets of Panama
Another Girl
The Word (Acoustic)
Elixer
Glass Cutter
Love (Acoustic)
Ur’e Such A Tease
Te Amo Corazón (Acoustic)
Girls In the Band
The additional material combines previously unreleased songs with stripped-back acoustic interpretations of recordings originally issued on 3121.
TIME OF UR LIFE
The previously unreleased “Time of Ur Life” accompanied the official announcement of the Expanded Edition.
The track was released as the first advance recording from the newly announced collection on October 29, 2026.
Its release gave listeners their first preview of the newly opened Vault material assembled for the Expanded Edition.
Tickets go on sale November 11, 2026. The 154-minute film will be shown in 4K with Dolby Atmos sound at cinemas equipped for the experience. It captures Prince’s Las Vegas performance on the big screen, featuring hits, fan favorites, deep cuts, and extended renditions.
BLACK SWEAT – LIVE
The announcement was also accompanied by a previously unreleased live performance video of:
“Black Sweat”
The footage comes from Prince’s Las Vegas performance material associated with the new 3121 archival campaign.
Its simultaneous release provided the visual counterpart to “Time of Ur Life,” previewing the live component of the project alongside the studio Vault material.
3121 LAS VEGAS LIVE
The campaign also includes the separately released:
3121 Las Vegas Live
The live album documents more than two hours of Prince’s January 20, 2007 performance during the Per4ming Live @ 3121 Las Vegas residency.
It is scheduled for release on:
November 27, 2026
as part of Record Store Day Black Friday.
The live album will be available as:
3LP Crystal Blue Vinyl
2CD
The performance combines songs from 3121 and Musicology with material drawn from throughout Prince’s catalogue.
THE LAS VEGAS CONCERT
The concert includes Prince classics such as:
Purple Rain
Kiss
If I Was Your Girlfriend
U Got The Look
The performance also includes 3121 material:
3121
Satisfied
Lolita
Black Sweat
Get On The Boat
Prince additionally incorporates outside material including:
Pass The Peas
Crazy
Play That Funky Music
PRINCE: 3121 LAS VEGAS CONCERT
Another major element of the campaign is the theatrical release of:
Prince: 3121 Las Vegas Concert
The concert film will open exclusively in cinemas across the United States and Canada beginning December 3, 2026, for a limited run.
THE BLU-RAY
The physical 3121 Expanded Edition configurations include a Blu-ray alongside the expanded audio programme.
The Blu-ray contains the Las Vegas concert film, bringing the live performance element directly into the physical Expanded Edition.
The physical configurations are:
3LP + Blu-ray
2CD + Blu-ray
The Blu-ray also includes the official promotional videos for:
Fury
Te Amo Corazón
Black Sweat
The release therefore connects the original studio album, additional Vault material, promotional videos and live documentation within a single expanded package.
L. LONDELL McMILLAN
Prince’s longtime attorney and manager L. Londell McMillan describes 3121 as representing considerably more than the original studio album.
McMillan recalls the wider creativity surrounding the era, extending from the music into concerts, house parties and international events.
For McMillan, the Expanded Edition provides an opportunity to experience both the music and the broader spirit surrounding that phase of Prince’s career twenty years later.
TÁMAR DAVIS
Vocalist Támar Davis, who appears on the original 3121 album, also reflects on her participation in the project.
Davis describes collaborating with Prince and the other musicians on 3121 as an honour and expresses continuing gratitude for having contributed vocals to the album.
Her involvement is particularly associated with:
“Beautiful, Loved and Blessed”

The first returns to the original studio album.
The second opens another section of the Prince Vault, adding 10 recordings ranging from unreleased songs to acoustic interpretations.
The third documents the Las Vegas residency through both the 3121 Las Vegas Live audio release and the complete 154-minute concert film.
