THE STORY

 “Batdance” was a last-minute replacement for the darker “Dance with the Devil”. It cleverly blends rock, funk and dance elements with numerous samples and dialogue from the 1989 Batman film. The B-side “200 Balloons” was an unreleased track written for the movie. The single was a global success and became Prince’s fourth US No. 1.

CONTEXT & NOTES 

All UK releases appeared on Warner Bros. The various 12" and CD formats gave fans the full-length album version plus the Mark Moore / William Orbit remixes (“The Batmix” and “Vicky Vale Mix”). The Picture Disc and Collector’s Edition CD were aimed at collectors.
