THE STORY

Released on September 15, 1989 as the second single from the Batman soundtrack, “Partyman” continued Prince’s highly successful collaboration with Tim Burton’s film. The track is an energetic funk explosion featuring multiple Prince-created remixes, including the self-referential “Purple Party Mix” that samples his own hits from 1979–1988. The B-side “Feel U Up (Short Stroke)” was previously unreleased and originated from the aborted Camille project.

CONTEXT & NOTES

This single maintained the bold Batman branding established with “Batdance,” using a simplified yellow-and-black logo. Prince’s remixes gave the track strong club appeal, while the inclusion of older material showed his willingness to revisit vault tracks during this commercially dominant period.
