THE STORY Black Sweat was the second single released from Prince’s 31st studio album 3121 (2006). It was issued as a double A-side with “Beautiful, Loved & Blessed” (featuring Tamar), which appears here in a slightly different version from the album cut (originally planned for Tamar’s own album).
The single was first made available as a download on February 21, 2006, with each purchase entering fans into the “Purple Ticket” contest to win tickets to a private Prince performance at his 3121 residence in Los Angeles on May 6, 2006. Physical formats followed in March 2006.
CONTEXT & NOTES This is a rare colored promotional 12" single pressed on red vinyl from Holland (catalogue TPLOVEVP1). Limited to only 190 copies, it features a plain black sleeve with a large white center label on the A-side and a Tamar/Prince label on the B-side. The extended version of the B-side runs 5:43. It was released in early February 2006 to support the single’s chart run in The Netherlands (reaching #27 on the Dutch Top 40 Tipparade on February 13, 2006 and #29 on the Dutch Mega Top 50 on March 18, 2006).
