Prince ( August 14, 2013) – "Groovy Potential" Single

Groovy Potential first appeared on 14 August 2013 as a download from 3rdEyeTunes.com, becoming the third track issued through Prince’s own online store. A short 1:20 preview was streamed on 3rdEyeGirl’s YouTube channel shortly before release. Although later included on Hitnrun Phase Two, the track originally stood alone without an associated album.

Recording dates are not fully documented, but basic tracking is believed to have taken place in early‑to‑mid 2012 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Horn overdubs were added in late July 2012 at the same location. Michael B. Nelson described the horn arrangement as a “10‑horn setup,” recorded first with muted brass and woodwinds, followed by a second pass using their standard configuration. The drum part was sourced from an unidentified earlier session. In a 2021 interview, Michael B. recalled learning of his appearance on the track only when Prince handed him a copy of Hitnrun Phase Two, explaining that one of his drum tracks had been reused for Groovy Potential.
