THE STORY

“Fixurlifeup” was the first new music released under the Prince and 3rdEyeGirl banner. It premiered on Canadian radio (CBC’s Q with Jian Ghomeshi) on 12 April 2013 and was officially released as a digital single on 16 May 2013, shortly after the Live Out Loud Tour dates. The track was recorded at Paisley Park in January 2013 and served as the lead single for what would eventually become the 2014 album Plectrumelectrum. The promo CD features stark white artwork with bold black text, typical of Prince’s minimalist promo aesthetic during this period.

CONTEXT & NOTES 

This single marked Prince’s return to a full band format with a raw, live-band energy after years of mostly solo or small-group projects. It was performed regularly on the Live Out Loud Tour in 2013 and remained in the setlist into 2014.
