THE STORY Released on May 24, 1985 as the second single from Around the World in a Day (and the lead single in the UK, Europe, and Australia), “Paisley Park” marked the debut of the Paisley Park label in those territories. The psychedelic, upbeat track was paired with the fan-favourite non-album B-side “She’s Always In My Hair.” The 12" featured an extended remix, while a shaped picture disc was also issued in the UK. This release came just five weeks after the album and on the same day Prince recorded “Hello” in the studio.

CONTEXT & NOTES

This single represented Prince’s move toward greater creative and label autonomy. The vibrant, optimistic sound contrasted with the more introspective album tracks, and “She’s Always In My Hair” quickly became a collector’s favourite. Multiple international variants and a 2025 Dolby Atmos remaster of the remix (released digitally on September 11, 2025) highlight its enduring legacy.
