The Red Shoes was the seventh studio album by Kate Bush. The album included one track featuring musical input from Prince, Why Should I Love You?, although the song was written solely by Kate Bush with no writing contribution from Prince.

The album also featured contributions from Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Nigel Kennedy. Why Should I Love You? additionally included performances by Lenny Henry, who contributed vocals and spoken performances.

Why Should I Love You? was recorded between sessions at Abbey Road Studios in London and Larrabee Sound Studios in North Hollywood, California.

Kate Bush's recordings were made at Abbey Road Studios, while Prince's contributions were recorded separately at Larrabee Sound Studios.

The album was recorded at Abbey Road Studios (Studio One), London, England, and Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota, USA.

Personnel on Why Should I Love You? included Kate Bush on vocals and keyboards, Prince on guitar, keyboards, bass guitar and background vocals, Lenny Henry on background vocals, alongside numerous additional musicians and vocalists.

The album was remastered in 2010/2011 by Kate Bush and James Guthrie for a 2011 reissue. It was remastered again by Doug Sax, James Guthrie and Joel Plante for the 2018 reissue.

STYLE & THEMES

The Red Shoes combines art rock, pop and sophisticated studio production, continuing the musical approach that defined Kate Bush's later catalogue.

The album is notable within Prince-related discography due to the inclusion of Why Should I Love You?, a unique collaboration that combined Kate Bush's songwriting with newly recorded musical contributions by Prince.
