Production and Context

Recorded in 1992 and engineered at Larrabee West Sound Studio, “Peach” captured Prince’s live energy with the New Power Generation, including Levi Seacer Jr. (guitar) and Tony M. (rap). Critics had mixed takes—Melody Maker called it a “dire hybrid,” while Music & Media likened Prince to a “wild child Iggy Pop.” Performed on the 1993 Act I Tour, it often stretched into extended jams, foreshadowing tracks like “Chaos and Disorder.” The bonus tracks drew from Prince’s '80s and early '90s hits, offering fans a curated slice of his catalog across formats.

Chart Performance

“Peach” peaked at No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart, charting for six weeks.

In the US, it bubbled under the Hot 100 at No. 7, with its B-side “Nothing Compares 2 U” (live) hitting No. 62 on the R&B chart.

Internationally:

No. 21 in the Netherlands,

No. 25 in Belgium (Flanders),

No. 32 in Germany,

No. 36 in Australia,

No. 39 in New Zealand.
