The One was issued exclusively as a radio‑only promotional CD single on April 13 1998, serving as the first advance release from Newpower Soul by The New Power Generation. No commercial edition was ever released. Multiple regional promo editions were produced, each with slight differences in credits, packaging, and track listings.
🟣 The Story
Released to radio stations only, The One acted as the lead promotional single for Newpower Soul. Although a commercial CD single was likely planned — a remix was created and later appeared on the Come On single — it never materialised.
European promo copies credited The Artist (Formerly Known As Prince) via the Love Symbol on the disc and info sheet.
The US promo edition featured no artwork, only a J‑card case with a title sticker.
The Brazilian promo included “Mad Sex”, incorrectly labelled as The One (Album Version).
The Mexican promo contained only the edited version of The One.
The single was not eligible for sales charts but reached #44 on the US Billboard R&B Radio Airplay Chart.
