THE STORY
Stevie Nicks drew inspiration from Prince’s “Little Red Corvette.” While recording at SIR Studios in Los Angeles, She contacted Prince, who was working nearby at Sunset Sound, and he contributed a distinctive keyboard/synthesizer part to “Stand Back.” Although uncredited on the original packaging due to label politics, he received a co-writing credit on the track. This remains Prince and Stevie Nicks’ only studio collaboration.
CONTEXT & NOTES
The Wild Heart peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200, was certified 2× Platinum in the US, and produced major hits including “Stand Back” (Top 5). The album showcases Nicks’ signature mystical, gypsy-rock style with contributions from Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Mick Fleetwood, and others. It continues to be celebrated as a cornerstone of 1980s rock.
