INTRODUCTION
Released on November 7, 1988, The Lover In Me was Sheena Easton's ninth full-length studio album and marked another important point in her continuing creative association with Prince. Although Prince did not produce the album as a whole, two of its tracks, 101 and Cool Love, came directly from him and were credited compositionally to his Joey Coco pseudonym.
Easton had originally asked Prince to produce the complete project. Unable to commit the necessary time, Prince instead contributed the two songs. Both featured Prince handling all instruments, with Easton providing the lead vocals. A third composition, Jaguar, was also considered for the project before Prince retained it and subsequently gave it to Mavis Staples.

ALBUM DETAILS
BACKGROUND / RECORDING
BACKGROUND | RECORDING |
Easton initially approached Prince about producing the complete album. Prince declined because he did not have sufficient time to undertake the entire project, but supplied 101 and Cool Love instead. | 101 was recorded in early January 1987, with Prince performing all instruments and Easton providing the vocals. Susan Rogers engineered the recording, assisted by Coke Johnson. |
A third Prince composition, Jaguar, was also recorded with the album in mind during mid-January 1987. Prince ultimately retained the song and later passed it to Mavis Staples for Time Waits For No One, released in 1989. | Cool Love followed in May 1988. Prince again supplied all instruments, with Easton on vocals. Eddie Miller engineered the recording, while David Leonard provided additional production and mixing at The Grey Room in Los Angeles. |
