Released through 3rdEyeTunes.com on November 1, 2013, this extended rehearsal version of Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) captured Prince revisiting a song originally recorded more than three decades earlier for 1999.
The 7:20 rehearsal had been recorded at Paisley Park Studios on October 30, 2013. One day later, on October 31, it appeared through the 3rdEyeGirl YouTube account as a static video accompanied by artwork by Stella Blu. The following day it became available through 3rdEyeTunes.com.

THE 2013 REHEARSAL
The 2013 recording substantially revisited Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) outside the framework of its original 1999 studio incarnation.
Recorded at Paisley Park Studios on October 30, the rehearsal became another example of Prince using his contemporary online outlets to circulate newly recorded material directly. The static-video presentation appeared first, followed by the 3rdEyeTunes release on November 1.
The rehearsal should not be confused with the 1982 studio recording or the separate early take subsequently released with the 1999 Super Deluxe Edition.
ORIGINAL RECORDING
The foundations of Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) date to mid-April 1982, when basic tracking took place at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen.
Prince mixed the recording at Sunset Sound in Hollywood on April 28, 1982. Further recording followed over the subsequent days, ultimately producing the 4:00 version issued on 1999.

RELEASE HISTORY
Something In The Water (Does Not Compute) was first released on October 27, 1982 as the seventh track on 1999.
Eleven months after the album appeared, the track was also used as the B-side of Automatic, a single released only in Australia.
Its history expanded significantly in later years. The 2013 Paisley Park rehearsal provided a contemporary reinterpretation, while the 2019 1999 Super Deluxe Edition presented an early studio version alongside a remaster of the familiar album recording.

LIVE & STREAMING HISTORY
The song remained available to Prince as an occasional live selection across a remarkably long part of his career rather than becoming a regular fixture of a particular tour.
Its documented first live appearance was on April 10, 1983 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. Its final documented performance came on February 28, 2016 during the second show at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland.
