Funknroll appears as the twelfth and final track on Prince and 3rdEyeGirl’s album Plectrumelectrum, and as the eleventh track on Prince’s Art Official Age in remixed form. The track was first mentioned publicly on 31 July 2013, before its live debut four days later.
Prince and 3rdEyeGirl performed the song on The Arsenio Hall Show on 4 March 2014, with a studio version premiering two days later on Los Angeles radio station 102.3 KJLH.
Two weeks before the album’s release, on 18 September 2014, the Art Official Age remix became available as a pre‑order download. A lyric video followed on 18 November 2014.
RECORDING
Basic tracking is assumed to have taken place in mid‑to‑late July 2013 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
