Released on 12 September 1995, Eye Hate U was the first commercial single from Prince’s seventeenth album The Gold Experience. Although The Most Beautiful Girl In The World had been issued the previous year, it was not attached to an album at the time, and earlier tracks such as P. Control and Dolphin had only appeared as promo releases.
The single arrived two weeks before the album and was issued worldwide. A maxi‑single followed one week later. The B‑side featured Eye Hate U (Quiet Night Mix by Eric Leeds), which was exclusive to this release.
