THE STORY

“Let’s Pretend We’re Married” was issued as the fifth single from the 1999 album in late 1983. The playful, funk-driven A-side was paired with the previously unreleased B-side “Irresistible Bitch.” Although it didn’t match the chart success of earlier singles from the album, it remains a fan favorite from Prince’s early Warner Bros. era.

CONTEXT & NOTES

The single features the striking shirtless cover photo with neon lighting. The 12" version preceded the 7" in the US market. This release marked the final single from the massively successful 1999 project.

CHART PERFORMANCE

US Billboard Hot 100 – #52 (peaked December 17, 1983) US Billboard Black Singles – #55 (peaked January 7, 1984) US Billboard Dance/Disco Top 80 – #52 (with Irresistible Bitch)
