THE STORY “Black Sweat” was the second single released from Prince’s 31st studio album 3121. The B-side “Beautiful, Loved & Blessed” (often treated as a double A-side) appears here in a slightly different version from the album cut (originally planned for Tamar’s album). The single was available as a download from February 21, 2006, with each purchase entering fans into the “Purple Ticket” contest to win tickets to a private Prince concert at 3121 (his Los Angeles residence) on May 6, 2006. Physical formats followed a month later, shortly after the album release.

CONTEXT & NOTES 

This eye-catching picture disc features a striking black silhouette of Prince in his signature hat against a vibrant blue, green, and orange sunburst background with “PRINCE BLACK SWEAT” in metallic lettering. It is housed in a custom black soft PVC sleeve with a clear front. The single reached No. 60 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and performed better in Europe, charting as high as No. 17 in Spain and No. 43 in the UK.
