Report on Prince’s surprise visit to the small town of Sheridan, Wyoming (pop. 15,000) for a special promotional event tied to the premiere of his film Under the Cherry Moon.
Lisa Barber, a 20-year-old hotel worker, won an MTV national call-in contest as the 10,000th caller. Her prize included hosting the local premiere of Under the Cherry Moon and an after-party at the Sheridan Holiday Inn with Prince. Approximately 200 friends and 1,000 fans attended the celebration. Prince arrived by private Lear 35 jet at Sheridan County Airport on Tuesday afternoon. He walked from the plane to a limousine, dramatically throwing his jacket over a security fence to screaming fans. He performed seven songs for Barber and the crowd, with a medley featuring his band The Revolution.
Local residents and officials were thrilled by the event. Mark Gundlach (Holiday Inn general manager) called it “the grandest event Sheridan has been able to host.” Bonnie Morrill of the Sheridan Chamber of Commerce hoped it would boost the local economy by $750,000. | A welcoming banner was placed across the main street but disappeared shortly afterward. The story highlights the surreal contrast between the global superstar and a modest Wyoming town, showcasing Prince’s ability to create massive excitement even in small communities |
