THE STORY Released as a limited edition CD single on Blackgypsy Music, “North Carolina” features Shelby J. on lead vocals with Anthony Hamilton as a guest. Prince produced the track and performed all instruments. The single includes the full-length version plus two edited mixes by Darron “Tripp” Thomas. This release is a rare Prince protégé project, highlighting his continued support for artists in his orbit.

CONTEXT & NOTES “North Carolina” is a soul/R&B tribute to Shelby J.’s home state. Prince’s full involvement (production and all instruments) makes this one of his most complete behind-the-scenes works from the early 2010s. Original copies are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors, often fetching high prices when they surface.
