A fierce, guitar‑driven 3RDEYEGIRL anthem marking Prince’s explosive return to raw, live‑band energy

✦ SUMMARY

Live Out Loud was made available for download from Prince’s 3rdEyeGirl.com website on February 22, 2013, following a series of early teasers and unofficial premieres. The track had first surfaced the previous evening when Prince sent it to two fans, Jester Jenkins and JAK3vision, who streamed it on their YouTube channels. After Jenkins shared a download link in his comments, he was asked to remove it and announced that the track would soon be officially available on 3rdEyeGirl.com. .

Prior to its release, the song had been streamed on the 3rd Eye Girl YouTube channel and as an audio‑only track on Minnesota public radio station The Current’s website. Lead vocals are performed by Hannah Ford, Donna Grantis, and Ida Nielsen, with lyrics written by Liv Warfield and music composed by Prince, who also provides background vocals. Although unconfirmed, it is assumed Prince produced the track. Recording dates remain unknown, but it is believed the song was recorded in late 2012 or early 2013 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

Promotional activity began early: on January 17, 2013, a 0:52 commercial for the song was posted on the 3rd Eye Girl Twitter account, promoting the track and its video as “COMING IN FEBRUARY…”. On January 30, 2013, 3rd Eye Girl social media channels displayed a still image from a promotional video, suggesting a video shoot had taken place. Although the name Live Out Loud was later used for the Live Out Loud Tour in Canada and the USA in April–May 2013, the song itself was not used to promote the tour and was never performed live.

✦ GLAM FLASHBACK

Live Out Loud captures the early spark of Prince’s collaboration with 3RDEYEGIRL — a raw, energetic, guitar‑driven sound that would later define PLECTRUMELECTRUM. While the track never became a tour centrepiece, it represents the moment Prince shifted back toward live‑band immediacy, female‑fronted power‑trio dynamics, and a DIY digital‑era rollout that relied on fan engagement, leaks, and guerrilla promotion. It stands as a snapshot of Prince reinventing his creative process yet again.
