Kat Dyson (born Katherine Dyson) is an American guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and producer. Known for her expressive guitar work and powerful, gospel-influenced voice, she became a standout member of Prince’s band during a highly creative period.

PRINCE CONNECTION Prince recruited Kat Dyson in 1996–1997. She performed with the New Power Generation during the Emancipation (1996), Newpower Soul (1998), and Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic (1999) eras. She was one of the few female guitarists to hold a prominent role in Prince’s bands. Kat contributed guitar, backing vocals, and occasional lead vocals, and was particularly noted for her soulful style and strong stage presence.

STAGE WORK & LATER CAREER Kat was a key member of the band during Prince’s highly energetic late-’90s tours. She has remained active in the Minneapolis music scene and occasionally participates in Prince tribute projects.
