KEY RELEASES

Baby I Lied (1983) – Her breakthrough hit (co-written with Rafe Van Hoy and Rory Bourke).

PRINCE CONNECTION

In 1986–1987, while both were recording at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, Deborah reached out to Prince requesting a song. He responded by writing and producing “Telepathy” specifically for her. Prince played multiple instruments on the track. The collaboration reflected Prince’s willingness to work across genres and his under-the-radar country music interests. Deborah has shared warm stories about their meetings, bonding over music, fashion, and dance.

STAGE WORK & LATER CAREER

WHY THEY MATTER TO THE PRINCE UNIVERSE

Deborah Allen represents Prince’s lesser-known but genuine explorations outside of R&B, funk, and rock. The Telepathy project is a fascinating example of Prince contributing to country music under an alias, showcasing his prolific songwriting and production skills while helping bridge genres in the 1980s.
