Carmen Electra (born Tara Leigh Patrick) is an American singer, dancer, actress, and model who became one of the most prominent artists developed under Prince’s guidance at Paisley Park in the early 1990s. She is best known for her self-titled 1993 debut album, which was written, produced, and largely performed by Prince.

EARLY LIFE & MUSICAL BEGINNINGS

Born on April 20, 1972, in Sharonville, Ohio, she began performing and dancing from a young age. After moving to Minnesota, she was discovered by Prince, who renamed her Carmen Electra and signed her to Paisley Park Records.

PRINCE CONNECTION

Prince took Carmen under his creative wing between 1991 and 1993. He wrote and produced nearly her entire debut album, crafting a high-energy mix of hip-hop, funk, and dance tailored to her persona. She also served as an opening act on the Diamonds and Pearls Tour.

WHY THEY MATTER TO THE PRINCE UNIVERSE

Carmen Electra represents Prince’s vision of building a new generation of bold, dance-oriented artists in the early NPG era. Her project remains one of the most complete examples of Prince’s ability to shape an artist’s entire sound and image.
