THE STORY
Released in September 1995 as the second commercial single from The Gold Experience, “Eye Hate U” (also titled “I Hate U”) is a slow-burning, emotionally raw track blending courtroom drama, heartbreak, and seductive funk. Co-produced with Ricky Peterson, it features multiple remixes including the Extended Remix and the atmospheric Quiet Night Mix with Eric Leeds on saxophone.
CONTEXT & NOTES
The single was issued in multiple formats with striking marionette-themed artwork. In the US it was promoted as The Hate Experience. It reached No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart and became a fan favourite for its vulnerability and production quality.
