Sex Shooter was released on 31 August 1984 as the first single from Apollonia 6’s debut album Apollonia 6. Arriving four weeks before the album, the single marked the first commercial release credited to the group. The B‑side, In A Spanish Villa, was also taken from the album. Both tracks were written, produced and largely performed by Prince, although his involvement was uncredited.
