Various Artists (September 30, 1985) – Krush Groove Original Motion Picture Soundtrack LP/CD

Krush Groove is the soundtrack album to the Michael Schultz film Krush Groove. The album was released on September 30, 1985, four weeks before the film's theatrical release.

The soundtrack is notable within the Prince-related catalogue for including Sheila E.'s Holly Rock, a track written by Prince but credited to Sheila E. The song was not included on any of Sheila E.'s own contemporary studio albums, making the soundtrack its original album home.
The album brought together artists from the worlds of hip-hop, R&B, funk and pop, reflecting the emerging mid-1980s hip-hop culture depicted in the film.
RECORDING

Prince's contribution to the soundtrack, Holly Rock, was recorded in April 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, California.
Sheila E. performed lead vocals and percussion on the track.
Prince provided background vocals and played all instruments except where noted, although these contributions were uncredited on the released soundtrack.
Prince also produced the recording, although production credit was assigned to Sheila E.
A Love Bizarre appears in the film itself but was not included on the soundtrack album.
STYLE & THEMES
The soundtrack combines hip-hop, R&B, funk, dance-pop and contemporary urban music styles.
Holly Rock combines Sheila E.'s vocal and percussion-driven performance with Prince's tightly structured Minneapolis-influenced production. The track sits comfortably alongside the soundtrack's blend of rap, funk and dance-oriented material.
The album serves as both a companion to the film and a snapshot of the rapidly expanding crossover between hip-hop and mainstream popular music during 1985.
