A quiet Emancipation‑era promo issued only in the USA

— SUMMARY

“Somebody’s Somebody” was released on January 13, 1997 as the second promotional‑only single from Emancipation, Prince’s 19th album and the third credited to the unpronounceable symbol. Issued exclusively in the United States, the promo arrived two months after the album’s release.

While the UK did not receive a standalone promo, its mixes were folded into the commercial single for “The Holy River”, released on the same day — making the US promo the only territory‑specific issue for the track.

The US 12" and CD promos included multiple edits and mixes, including the Ultrafantasy Edit, Radio Edit, and Live Studio Mix, none of which appeared on the album. The CD promos also included a short spoken advertisement titled “On Sale Now!”, a rarity among Prince promotional releases.
