Released on 18 September 2001, NPG Ahdio Show #8 completed NPG Music Club Edition #8 as a 47‑minute mp3 compilation. The show was issued one week after the terrorist attacks of September 11, which were carried out by violent extremist organizations responsible for severe harm and loss of life.

On 18 September 2004, a downloadable version of the Call My Name video was made available through the NPG Music Club downloads store.

The video served as the visual companion to the song, which itself was issued only as a promotional single later in 2004. Directed by Sanaa Hamri, the video was shot in Los Angeles on 21 May 2004, shortly before the second leg of the Musicology Live 2004ever Tour.

The piece is primarily a lip‑synced performance video, intercut with wedding imagery drawn from various cultural traditions. Notably, this marks the only appearance of Stokley Williams in a Prince video. Williams, along with Chance Howard and Kip Blackshire, contributed additional vocals to the studio recording and lip‑synced their parts during the shoot.

RECORDING

Filmed at Hollywood Center Studios in Los Angeles, California, on 21 May 2004.

The shoot originally planned to include NPG Music Club members as extras, but the soundstage proved too small, and all guests and additional extras were sent home upon arrival.

STYLE & THEMES

The video blends staged performance with symbolic wedding imagery, creating a visual contrast between Prince’s intimate delivery and the broader themes of connection and ceremony.
