THE STORY
“Guitar” was the first commercial single from Planet Earth. It was released digitally worldwide on 25 June 2007 and physically across Europe on 9 July 2007. The physical CD paired the title track with the album cut “Somewhere Here On Earth”. The single was not released commercially in the United States. Promotion was heavily tied to Prince’s Super Bowl XLI halftime show earlier that year and the upcoming Mail on Sunday newspaper album giveaway in the UK and Ireland.
CONTEXT & NOTES
The single performed modestly across Europe, reaching the Top 20 in the Netherlands and Italy but struggling elsewhere. The physical CD is now the most widely available commercial format of the single. Two different music videos were later produced (one directed by Sanaa Hamri).
