THE STORY

HitnRun Phase One was originally released exclusively on Tidal on September 7, 2015, followed by a CD release on September 15, 2015 via NPG Records. On January 30, 2026, it received its first-ever vinyl release as a 10 Year Anniversary edition, bringing Prince’s bold, experimental late-period work to the format for the first time.

CONTEXT & NOTES

The album blends funk, pop, and EDM textures with guest appearances and reworked Prince classics. It features contributions from 3RDEYEGIRL, Judith Hill, Rita Ora, Lianne La Havas, and others. Initial critical reception was mixed (Metacritic 53), but it has since been appreciated as a snapshot of Prince’s restless creativity in his final years.
