THE STORY
“Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone” was recorded in late 2012 or early 2013, most likely at Paisley Park Studios. The studio version was played by DJ Rashida prior to Prince’s show on 17 January 2013 at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. It was later included (as "Ain’t Gon Miss Ya") on a CD labeled "Live Band Trax" found at Paisley Park after Prince’s death, alongside other tracks from 2012–2013. It is unknown if the version on the CD was a live in-studio take or the original studio recording.
CONTEXT & NOTES
This track was not tied to a specific album project at the time of release. It represents Prince’s continued experimentation with online-only releases through 3rdEyeGirl.com during this period. The song features a strong horn arrangement and showcases Prince’s soulful ballad style.
