3 Chains O’ Gold is Prince’s longform visual companion to the Love Symbol album, weaving together the album’s videos and segues into a loose narrative.

The story follows the Princess of Cairo (Mayte), whose father is assassinated by seven men seeking the sacred 3 Chains O’ Gold. She sends Prince a video pleading for help; he becomes captivated, though initially reluctant to commit. After romantic diversions and emotional conflict, he ultimately realises his devotion to her.

Egyptian footage was captured during Mayte and Randee St. Nicholas’ 1991 trip, long before the album’s release. Additional filming took place at Paisley Park Studios. The Prologue includes performance footage from Glam Slam Yokohama, filmed 6 April 1992, originally intended for a standalone project before being shelved.

Commercially released on VHS and Laserdisc in the USA, Europe and Japan.
