Prince and the New Power Generation (November 4, 1991) – Insatiable / I Love U In Me Single USA: 7"
Updated: 3 days ago
THE NOVEMBER 4 SINGLE | A DISTINCT US RELEASE |
Released in the United States on November 4, 1991, Insatiable was the third single from Diamonds And Pearls. Unlike the Cream maxi-single issued on the same day, this Chronicle centres specifically on the commercial US 7" pressing, catalogue 7-19090. | The A-side presented the 4:01 edit of Insatiable, backed with I Love U In Me. The cassette, promotional 12", promotional CD and later Back-To-Back Hits edition are treated here as variants and related editions, not as the primary release. |
BACKGROUND
INSATIABLE | I LOVE U IN ME |
Insatiable came from Diamonds And Pearls, the first Prince album credited jointly to Prince and the New Power Generation. The single appeared on the same day as the elaborate US maxi-single edition of Cream. | Rather than introducing a previously unheard B-side, Prince selected I Love U In Me, which had already appeared two years earlier on The Arms Of Orion single. |
For the commercial 7", the album-length Insatiable was reduced to a 4:01 edit. | The pairing created a particularly focused two-track single, contrasting the edited album track with an earlier Prince B-side. |

STYLE & RELEASE CONFIGURATION
INSATIABLE | THE SINGLE FORMAT |
The commercial single used the considerably shorter 4:01 edit rather than the 6:37 album version. Both versions were subsequently placed together on the promotional CD. | Commercially, the release was unusually restricted to vinyl and cassette. There was no commercial CD edition, although Warner Bros. did manufacture a promotional CD containing the Edit and Album Version. |
The single concentrated on the slower side of the Diamonds And Pearls period rather than the remix-heavy approach used for Gett Off and Cream. | The commercial cassette mirrored the 7" track pairing, while the promotional 12" concentrated entirely on Insatiable. |
RELEASE HISTORY
ORIGINAL 1991 RELEASE | LATER HISTORY |
Insatiable was released in the United States on November 4, 1991. The commercial 7" carried catalogue number 7-19090 and paired the 4:01 edit with I Love U In Me. | A 1993 Back-To-Back Hits 7" subsequently paired Insatiable (Edit) with Diamonds And Pearls (Edit) under catalogue number 7-15990. |
A corresponding cassette was also issued, while 12" and CD editions were promotional rather than commercial releases. | The original singles material was revisited as part of the Diamonds And Pearls – The Singles collection in 2023. |
