Gett Off became the first single released from Diamonds And Pearls, marking Prince’s return to giving his band co‑credit for the first time since The Revolution disbanded in 1986. The track was initially issued only as a DJ promo on 7 June 1991, Prince’s 33rd birthday, with just 1,500 copies of a one‑sided 12" produced and no commercial release planned .
Strong club response led to the song being added to the album and released worldwide as the lead single.
Gett Off reached number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 6 on the Billboard Hot R&B Singles Chart . The track replaced Horny Pony on the album, which then became the B‑side of the commercial single.
The maxi‑single included several tracks derived from Gett Off — Violet The Organ Grinder, Gangster Glam, and Clockin’ The Jizz — along with multiple remixes issued in different territories.
The original near‑10‑minute promo mix was reissued for Record Store Day on 24 November 2023 .
