A raw, riff-driven funk-rock statement that served as the first official single from the forthcoming Plectrumelectrum album, “PretzelBodyLogic” announced the arrival of Prince’s new power trio 3rdEyeGirl with a bold, Sabbath-inflected guitar attack.

THE STORY
“PretzelBodyLogic” was released as a surprise digital single on 3 February 2014, just days after a 28-second clip had been streamed on the 3rdEyeGirl YouTube channel. The track was positioned as the first single from the upcoming Plectrumelectrum album (although Fixurlifeup had already appeared the previous year). The striking collage artwork featured fragmented images of the band members. A JBPR promo sticker on the back confirmed the album’s April 2014 release date and noted that Prince was currently on the Hit and Run Tour in the UK with 3rdEyeGirl.
CONTEXT & NOTES The song’s heavy, descending riff drew frequent comparisons to Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man.” It received its live debut in acoustic form at Lianne La Havas’ apartment in London on 4 February 2014, followed by the full electric version the next day at the Electric Ballroom. The track was performed regularly during the 2014 Hit and Run Tour and remained in the setlist into 2015.
