Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that Prince recorded a never-before-heard version of the Beatles classic “The Long and Winding Road” during a rehearsal.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2’s Tracks of My Years, McCartney shared the story:

“I was with some guy a couple of years ago… and this guy said, ‘Have you heard Prince do Long and Winding Road?’ I said, ‘Well, no. That’s one of my songs. I don’t think he ever did it.’ He said, ‘Well, he did. He did it in rehearsal.’”

The man, believed to be Prince’s personal photographer, later sent McCartney the recording.

“He sent it to me and it’s really great. It’s kind of rocky. He plays some really good guitar on it.”

McCartney described Prince as a “special guy” and a “wizard,” and expressed interest in working with Prince’s estate to possibly release or develop the track further.

He also reflected on the sadness of losing such a talented artist, saying it makes him wish he had known Prince better.

This exciting discovery adds another unreleased gem to Prince’s legendary vault. Fans are now hoping to hear the Purple One’s rocky take on one of The Beatles’ most iconic ballads.

should this Prince cover see the light of day? or should we Let It Be?
