Prince’s "Do Me, Baby (Demo)" backed with "Private Joy", was released as a 7-inch vinyl single in the UK by Warner Records (catalog number RSD 21-04) on October 14, 2021, without prior announcement to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Controversy album.

The a-side featured a previously unreleased demo of the track "Do Me, Baby," recorded in April 1979.

On the release day, the single could be downloaded or streamed. It was also available for pre-order for a limited time of 7 days as a limited edition 7" purple vinyl and an original cassette replica, restricted to 1981 copies, through Prince . com
