THE STORY Released without prior announcement on October 14, 2021 by Warner Records to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Controversy album, “Do Me, Baby (Demo)” features a previously unreleased 1979 recording of the track. The limited 7" purple vinyl and matching cassette (1,981 copies each) were available exclusively via Prince.com for one week. The track also became available digitally and on streaming platforms on release day.

CONTEXT & NOTES Recorded in April 1979, this early demo predates the polished Controversy version by two years. Stripped back and emotionally exposed, it highlights Prince’s vocal vulnerability and sensual phrasing long before the song became one of his signature slow jams. The 2021 release forms part of the Estate’s ongoing archival strategy, spotlighting formative recordings that reveal Prince’s creative evolution.
