A widescreen Revolution anthem paired with a non‑album fan favourite
— SUMMARY
Mountains” was released on May 21 1986 as the second single from Parade, the third and final album credited to Prince and the Revolution. Arriving five weeks after the album, the single featured the non‑album B‑side “Alexa De Paris,” a guitar‑driven instrumental that became a cult favourite and later resurfaced in extended form on the European CD single of “Letitgo” in 1994.
The 12" release included an expansive 9:56 extended version of “Mountains,” showcasing the full power of the Revolution’s ensemble sound — horns, harmonies, and layered percussion — making it one of the most celebrated long mixes of the era.
Commercially, the single reached No. 23 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 15 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles chart, with additional success on the Dance/Disco Club Play chart.
