THE STORY Released on January 3, 2003 as a digital single through the NPG Music Club, “C-Note (Live)” served as the lead track from the C‑Note EP. The title is an acronym formed from the initials of five live soundcheck recordings: Copenhagen, Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, and Empty Room — playfully referencing the slang term “C-Note” for a $100 bill. The release continued Prince’s early-2000s strategy of offering exclusive content directly to subscribers.
CONTEXT & NOTES “Empty Room (Live)” was recorded during the One Nite Alone… Tour soundchecks and captures Prince in a raw, intimate setting. Long regarded as one of his most emotionally charged compositions, the song had been whispered about for years before this official release. The track later appeared on the full C-Note digital album in 2004 and remains a fan favourite, especially the iconic 2009 Montreux performance.
