Prince & Apollonia’s "Take Me With U" backed with an edited version of "Baby I'm A Star", was released as a 7-inch vinyl single in the US by Warner Bros. Records (catalog number 7-29079) on January 25, 1985., it was released as the fifth and final single from the Purple Rain album, This release occurred seven months after the album's debut and was available in North America, New Zealand, and Japan. The B-side featured an edited version of Baby I'm A Star, with the original also appearing on Purple Rain.

The single peaked at number 25 on the US Billboard Hot 100 Chart and reached number 40 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles Chart.
