THE STORY
Released on December 2, 1996 as the lead single from Emancipation, “Betcha By Golly Wow!” is Prince O(+>’s stylish reinterpretation of the 1972 Stylistics classic. Featuring rich harmonies and warm production, it became his first-ever cover version released as a single. The B-side was the original track “Right Back Here In My Arms”.
CONTEXT & NOTES
This release marked the official launch of the Emancipation campaign. A limited edition CD came in a special orange slipcase with a fold-out poster. While commercially released in the UK and Australia, the US only received promotional copies. The single performed strongly in the UK, reaching No. 11.
