b/w “Bambi”

7" Vinyl — Warner Bros. Records — WBS 49226

Released: March 25, 1980 (USA)

The final single from Prince — issued without a picture sleeve and featuring one of his fiercest early album cuts on the flip.

Released on March 25, 1980, “Still Waiting” became the third and final single from Prince’s second album Prince. Issued only in the USA and New Zealand, the single paired the acoustic‑leaning A‑side with the hard‑rock album track “Bambi.” Unlike the previous singles from the album, this release arrived without a picture sleeve, appearing in a standard Warner Bros. company bag. The New Zealand edition is notable for containing the full 4:24 album version of “Still Waiting,” which was later replaced by a shorter edit on subsequent LP pressings worldwide.

🟣 Production and Context

“Still Waiting” reflects Prince’s early singer‑songwriter sensibilities, contrasting sharply with the rock intensity of “Bambi.” Both tracks were recorded during the sessions for Prince (1979), with Prince handling all vocals and instruments. The single’s modest chart performance did not reflect the growing momentum of Prince’s live shows, which were becoming increasingly electric during this period.
