Overview   Sign O’ The Times became Prince’s third film to receive a home‑video release when it arrived on VHS and Laserdisc on 5 May 1988 in the United States, following its theatrical premiere in November 1987. Running approximately 85 minutes, the film blends staged performance with live concert footage, capturing the energy of the 1987 tour and showcasing Prince at a creative peak.

The home‑video edition performed strongly, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Top Video Cassette Sales chart and later earning Platinum certification from the RIAA.

After Prince sold the film to Cineplex Odeon Films in 1987, the rights passed through multiple companies over the following decades. This resulted in numerous international VHS, Laserdisc, and later DVD editions. The Prince Estate intended to include the film on DVD in the 2020 Sign O’ The Times Super Deluxe Edition, but ongoing rights complications prevented its inclusion.
