THE STORY “Cinnamon Girl” was the second commercially available single from Prince’s 2004 album Musicology, released six months after the album itself. Three months earlier, “United States of Division” had been released as a virtual B-side via the NPG Music Club download store.
The single is notable for having entirely different artwork and track listings between the North American and European editions. The US version emphasizes the Phil Harder-directed music video (featuring Keisha Castle-Hughes) and includes a making-of documentary titled XPOSED.
CONTEXT & NOTES
This US enhanced CD single features dramatic cover artwork with a split image of a woman’s face and a silhouetted figure against a fiery background. The disc is a CD Extra containing both audio tracks and video content. Unlike the European release, it does not include the live “Dear Mr. Man” recordings.
CHART PERFORMANCE
