THE STORY
“Purple Rain” was released as the third single from the Purple Rain album and motion picture in September 1984. The epic title track became one of Prince’s signature songs and a cornerstone of his live performances. The B-side featured the previously unreleased “God” (Love Theme from Purple Rain) in both vocal and instrumental versions, which were not included on the original soundtrack album.
CONTEXT & NOTES
This UK 12" edition came with a special fold-out poster and hype sticker noting the limited edition. The striking cover artwork and atmospheric rain imagery perfectly complemented the film and album’s themes.
