Prince and the New Power Generation’s One Nite Alone... Live! was released as an album in the US by NPG Records (catalog number none) on November 24, 2002, with a UK release in December 2002.

It was sold exclusively as part of a 3CD box set that also included One Nite Alone... The Aftershow: It Ain’t Over! (the NPG Music Club edition also came with a copy of One Nite Alone..., which had been previously released separately through the club). On 29 May 2020, The Prince Estate re-released the album with Sony's Legacy Recordings on vinyl (individually) and as part of a 4CD+DVD box set titled Up All Nite With Prince - The One Nite Alone Collection (The Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone..., and One Nite Alone... The Aftershow: It Ain’t Over! were also re-released individually on vinyl the same day).

This CD serves as the first audio documentation of Prince's concerts, featuring tracks from nine different shows across eight venues on the One Nite Alone... Tour. The tracklist closely mirrors a typical night's performance on the tour, although it omits the number of cover songs frequently performed (such as A Case Of You, Love Rollercoaster, La-La Means I Love You, and Sing A Simple Song), focusing solely on Prince's compositions.

The live tracks on the release span a significant portion of Prince's career. Six of the album's 27 tracks originally appeared on The Rainbow Children. Two tracks were from One Nite Alone..., which was released six months earlier. Most tracks were originally from Prince's studio albums between 1979 and 1999. One track, Xenophobia, had not been released in any form before, except as a different live version on the One Nite Alone... Live Sampler promo made available a few months earlier.

The audio was recorded directly from the mix console of Prince’s long time sound engineer, Scottie Baldwin.
