Released January 1, 2003 as an unannounced digital‑only MP3 drop for NPG Music Club members, Xpectation (New Directions in Music) became Prince’s first fully instrumental album under his own name. Initially issued without artwork or catalogue number, it later reappeared in 2004 via the Musicology Download Store and finally received official artwork in 2015 with its Tidal lossless reissue.
